As Russia-NATO tensions rise, the Arctic is emerging as a new strategic flashpoint. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused NATO of pushing the region toward militarization, warning that growing military activity near Russia’s northern borders could increase confrontation risks. NATO has stepped up Arctic exercises involving thousands of troops, with forces from the U.S., Britain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and other allies training across the region. From Greenland and Norway to Jan Mayen, military preparations are expanding. Moscow has also raised concerns over Western pressure on Russia’s Arctic energy projects.
