Russia launched one of its largest recent missile-and-drone barrages against Ukraine on October 7, striking Kyiv and multiple other regions on the same day as President Vladimir Putin’s birthday. Ukrainian officials said around 100 people were wounded, while the death toll rose to at least 25, including children, with the heaviest casualties reported in Pryluky after a missile destroyed a residential building. Kyiv described the attack as a deliberate and devastating barrage, while Moscow said it targeted military-industrial facilities and other strategic sites. The strikes have renewed questions over Russia’s battlefield strategy and whether Moscow could intensify pressure on Kyiv in the weeks ahead.
