Sheikh Hasina breaks silence after death verdict, slams 'rigged' tribunal & challenges Yunus to Hague trial

Published on Nov 17, 2025 10:30 pm IST

Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has spoken out forcefully after being sentenced to death by a Dhaka special tribunal for alleged crimes against humanity during the 2024 student protest crackdown. Denouncing the verdict as “rigged” and politically motivated, Hasina called the charges “illegitimate” and challenged interim leader Muhammad Yunus to hold any further trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Hasina, in exile, insists she was denied a fair defense and continues to reject all charges, maintaining the tribunal is not impartial or truly international.
