Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah first announced that “there is no hijab ban now” in the state, only to later say that his government is yet to withdraw the decision taken by the previous BJP regime. Ban on hijab inside educational institutions was imposed by the previous BJP government in February 2022 which was upheld by the Karnataka High Court but a split verdict by the Supreme Court in October 2022 created uncertainties.
