Paralympics: Praveen Kumar bags silver in men's high jump; PM lauds 'hard work'

• India's Praveen Kumar bagged the silver medal in men's high jump T64 category in Tokyo Paralympics. World No. 3 Kumar took the country's medal tally to 11 in the ongoing Games in Japan. PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter & lauded Kumar's 'hard work and unparalleled dedication’. Competing in his debut Paralympics, 18-year-old Kumar set a new Asian record with a 2.07m jump. Kumar finished behind Great Britain's Jonathan Broom-Edwards, who notched up to 2.10m for gold. This was also Kumar's personal best performance & his first major medal since taking up the sport in 2019. The teenager is a Noida resident & is now the youngest medal winner in the Indian contingent in Tokyo. The bronze went to Rio Games champion Maciej Lepiato of Poland who produced an effort of 2.04m. T64 classification is for athletes with a leg amputation, who compete with prosthetics in a standing position. The ongoing Games are turning out to be India's best ever with two gold, six silver, three bronze so far.
