Trump hails Russian diesel deal with Putin; Zelensky slams sanctions relief

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned Donald Trump’s reported diesel fuel deal with Vladimir Putin, warning that easing pressure on Moscow without a clear and lasting de-escalation agreement would reward Russia and prolong the war in Ukraine. Trump said Russia would supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel immediately, followed by additional shipments in November and later deliveries, arguing that the deal would help bring down fuel prices for American farmers, ranchers and truckers. The announcement comes amid disruption to global energy supplies linked to the Strait of Hormuz crisis and rising U.S. fuel costs. Zelenskyy called for stronger sanctions on Russia and continued American military support for Ukraine, declaring that “peace never comes through weakness.”
