On the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit, U.S. President Donald Trump and Brazil’s Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva agreed to restart trade negotiations after months of tension. Trump said they “get along very well” and predicted a deal “pretty quickly,” tasking Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to finalize terms. The two leaders discussed tariffs, social media regulation, and Brazil’s vast rare-earth mineral reserves, a key to U.S. technology independence. Lula called the meeting “positive” and said there’s “no reason for conflict.” A new U.S.-Brazil partnership could reshape global trade power.
