‘Unwise’: Russia warns Turkey against military operation in Syria

Russia has now commented on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's warning that he will launch a military operation in Syria. RIA news agency quoted Russia’s Syria envoy Alexander Lavrentyev as saying that Russia considers Turkey’s possible military operation in Syria unwise as it could escalate and destabilize the situation. The Russian envoy was in Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan for talks with Turkey, Iran, and the Syrian government and rebels. As per Turkey, action in Syria is necessary because Washington and Moscow broke promises to push the predominantly Kurdish group YPG 30 km (18 miles) from the border after a 2019 Turkish offensive.
