Britain heatwave melts Royal Air Force base's runway as record 40°C witnessed

- The UK broke an unwelcome record on Tuesday when Heathrow in south-west London recorded 40.2 degrees Celsius on the hottest day ever experienced in the country. The Meteorological Office red warning of danger to life from extreme heat remains in place for much of central, northern, and south-east England, including the capital city as temperatures might rise further. The heat in the UK is so brutal that even runways have melted. The UK's largest air force base was forced to halt flights as one of its runways melted. This comes after Luton Airport had to also shut operations because of a melted runway. Heatwave has not just affected the air operations but train services have also been hit.
