‘Escalation must stop’: France scolds Iran for violating Versailles deal while urging US to back off

France has called for an immediate end to the latest escalation between Iran and the United States, urging both sides to return to the June 17 ceasefire framework and resume negotiations during the agreed 60-day period. French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux stressed the need for diplomacy, addressing concerns over the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programs, and regional security.
