How China is politicising the Dalai Lama succession: Dr Jigme Yeshe explains

Published on Jul 03, 2025 05:33 pm IST

But Beijing isn’t having it. China has flatly rejected his claim, insisting the next Dalai Lama must be “approved” by the Chinese government. This has triggered new tensions not just between Tibetans and Beijing, but potentially between China and India. In this episode, we speak with Dr Jigme Yeshe, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, University of Calcutta.
