Kaliningrad attack closer than expected? NATO’s eastern flank gets sharper teeth with new F-35 jets

Poland has received five more F-35A “Husarz” fifth-generation fighter jets, strengthening NATO’s eastern flank amid growing security concerns surrounding Russia and the heavily militarised Kaliningrad exclave. The aircraft landed at the 32nd Tactical Air Base in Łask on August 28, bringing Poland’s delivered F-35 fleet to eight, with more jets expected under Warsaw’s $4.6 billion contract for 32 aircraft. The F-35 programme is part of Poland’s broader military modernisation effort and is intended to replace aging Soviet-era MiG-29 and Su-22 aircraft. With Poland positioned close to Kaliningrad, the arrival of these advanced stealth fighters highlights Warsaw’s preparations for a potentially more dangerous regional security environment.
