Qatar warns Trump of ‘serious consequences’ as Iran war threatens Gulf stability

Qatar has broken its silence on the Iran war, with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani warning Donald Trump of “serious consequences” if the conflict continues to escalate, in an unusually blunt call from the ruler of a country that hosts Al Udeid, the largest U.S. base in the Middle East. Citing Qatar News Agency, regional outlets say the emir told Trump that continued Iranian attacks and U.S.‑Iran exchanges could destabilise the Gulf, threaten global peace and security, and damage the international economic order, urging urgent diplomacy even as he vowed that Qatar would defend its sovereignty if necessary. The warning lands just as Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei oversees fresh waves of drone and missile strikes on Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE and Bahrain, forcing repeated interceptions over oil facilities, cities and U.S.‑linked bases and undercutting Trump’s claim that the war will end “soon.” Together with Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi’s refusal to reopen talks with Washington and his insistence that Iran is fighting an “imposed” war in self‑defence, the Qatari intervention highlights how deeply alarmed Gulf leaders have become – and how far Mojtaba appears willing to go in openly defying Trump while turning Arab partners hosting U.S. forces into front‑line targets.
