U.S. To Withdraw Warship USS Gerald From Middle-East; Islamic Resistance Impact?

Published on Jan 01, 2024 03:27 pm IST

The U.S. has taken a big decision to pull back its aircraft carrier from the Middle East. The aircraft carrier will be repatriated from the eastern Mediterranean after over two months of being deployed there. The USS Gerald R. Ford will leave "in the coming days," two U.S. officials told ABC News. The giant U.S. warship was sent there after Hamas' October 2023 attack on Israel. The U.S. had then said that the carrier and five other surface warships were sent to deter Hezbollah in Lebanon and Iran from broadening the conflict regionally. Hezbollah suspects Islamic Resistance groups' actions could be one of the reasons behind U.S. withdrawal.
