The U.S. had privately warned Iran before Islamic State carried out twin bombings near the tomb of Gen. Qassem Soleimani in Kerman on Jan 3 that killed at least 94 people. AFP reported that the U.S. acquired intelligence that ISIL’s affiliate in Afghanistan was plotting to attack Iran and then informed Tehran as per its longstanding 'duty to warn' policy. The U.S. media claimed that Iran could have thwarted the attack or lessened the number of casualties if it paid heed to the U.S. warning. Watch for more details.
