Wagner Group Terrifies NATO; War Fears Increase As Poland, Lithuania Shut Border With Belarus
Updated on Aug 16, 2023 09:51 pm IST
NATO nations Poland and Lithuania have beefed up borders with Russia-ally Belarus as the war in Ukraine rages. Lithuania shut two of its six border crossing points with Belarus. Lithuania says the decision was taken due to "geopolitical circumstances". The move comes weeks after Russia's mercenary group Wagner took refuge in Belarus. The West fears Wagner troops in Belarus will cause greater instability in the region. Last week, Poland moved additional troops to its border with Belarus. Warsaw already closed all but one border crossing point with Belarus.
