A new NASA animation video shows the changes in Arctic sea levels from March through August this year. This year's melt season started at a fast pace as a record low cover registered in March continued to rapidly decrease through May. Yet by June the process slowed, meaning the chances of a new minimum summertime sea ice extent record are highly unlikely this year, NASA said. Although the sea ice probably won't reach a record low, it is still in continuous decline with no signs of recovery, said NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center sea ice scientist Walt Meier.
