Watch | Ghost-like octopus seen off the coast of Hawaii
Updated on Mar 08, 2016 12:45 pm IST
Scientists have claimed to discover a new octopus species off the coast of Hawaii. The Okeanos Explorer found the octopus by accident when they launched their remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to collect geological samples from the sea floor. The creature was filmed by the crew and described as 'ghost-like' because of its pale appearance. The paleness has been attributed to the lack of pigment cells. The octopus's white appearance has led it being dubbed as 'Casper the friendly ghost' on social media.
