: The Monterey Bay Aquarium on Thursday (May 12) released a video as part of the aquarium's newest exhibition “¡Viva Baja! Life on the Edge” featuring creatures from the coast of California. The video shows Pacific seahorses feeding in their tanks.Seahorses are syngnathids, which means a “fused jaw”; instead of gulping their food, they attack it with a sudden strike. The video shows also the plume of oil and food that is snorted from the back of the seahorse's head through the gill flap as the seahorse breathes out.The Pacific seahorse (Hippocampus ingens) is one of the largest known species and the only one found off the California coast. The species is able to grow to a foot (30 cms) tall
