Pakistan faces global humiliation over the persecution of its minorities again. UNHRC experts have raised an alarm over the reported rise in abductions, forced marriages, and conversions of underage girls by religious minorities in Pakistan. Lashing out at the Shehbaz Sharif government, United Nations experts called for immediate efforts to curtail such practices and ensure justice for victims. The UN Human Rights Council Office statement also slammed the Pakistan court system for "enabling these offences." Each year, over 1,000 underage girls belonging to minority communities are forced to convert to Islam in Pakistan, according to media reports. In August 2022, ex-Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan admitted that "Hindu girls are being forcefully converted to Islam" in the country. Watch this report for more.
