A shooting was reported in the 2700 block of E. 170th Street in Lansing, Illinois on Thursday, just opposite the local police and fire departments. The Lansing police are investigating a shooting that took place at a business there, as per Courtney Spinelli of WGN News.
The publication reported the suspect is a Black man wearing a red dew rag, black hoodie and with a white surgical mask on his face. As per the cops, he's around 5’8″ and 160 lbs and was last seen southbound on 170th Street.
There is no details on injuries yet. The Lansing Journal reported that the Civic Ready alert system had issued a message after the shooting noting the offender was at large.
"The Lansing Police are asking residents to shelter in place. A shooting occurred in the 2700 block of 170th street. The offender is at large, LPD and numerous law enforcement agencies are working to locate him. The offender is a male black, 5'8" 160 pounds wearing what is described as a black dew rag, black hoodie, and a white surgical mask. The offender was last seen south bound from 170th st. If you see anything suspicious and or anyone matching the description dial 911," the message reportedly read.

Another person shared visuals of the manhunt underway after the shooting.
“Manhunt Underway Outside Lansing Police & Fire Station After Shooting…If you see anything suspicious and or anyone matching the description dial 911,” the person wrote.
Lansing shooting: Reactions amid manhunt
Several people reacted to the news of the shooting and subsequent manhunt in Lansing. “Shelter in place everyone!!!!,” one person urged as cops search for the suspect.
“Praying for the family and coworkers of the individual shot. Praying for everyone’s safety,” another said. Yet another local noted “Well, my streets blocked off now and I got helicopters above head.” One person hoping for a quick resolution commented “I hope LPD get him and lock him up for good!!!.”
Meanwhile, another person remarked on the incidents in Illinois over the day and said on X “It's been a hell of a day for Illinois. A car basically blows up on the Eisenhower, you have a shooting at the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Melrose Park and now a shelter in place in Lansing and people wonder why I left Illinois.”
