As Donald Trump on Friday brokered a peace deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia and simultaneously announced that he will be meeting Russian president Vladimir Putin later, calls for a Nobel Peace Prize for Trump grew. The most recent addition to the list was Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, both of whom announced that they plan to nominate Trump for the Noble Peace Prize.
Maybe we agree with Prime Minister Pashinyan to send a joint appeal to the Nobel committee to award President Trump with the Nobel Peace Prize...," Armenia's President Aliyev said. "This is a tangible result of President Trump's leadership and no one could've achieved that."
The comments came after the two countries signed an agreement with each other, with Trump in attendance, that will allow for the reopening of some of the key routes connecting the two South Caucasus countries. The move, and the US's role in it, is being viewed as strategically significant for the US amid Russia's declining influence.
Additionally, as per of the deal, the two countries have agreed to name the route after Trump, calling it the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity. Speaking to reporters after the deal, Trump said that the name was “a great honor for me” but “I didn’t ask for this.”
“We’re going to have to get over there,” Trump added, expressing his desire to visit the route.

{{/usCountry}}Along with brokering the deal between the two countries, President Trump also announced that he will meet with Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, in Alaska to discuss the Ukraine war. August 15 has been set as the date for the meeting, Trump said.
The announcement came hours after Trump announced that Ukraine will have to cede some territories as part of a potential peace agreement with Russia.
"You're looking at territory that's been fought over for three and a half years, a lot of Russians have died. A lot of Ukrainians have died," Trump said
“It's very complicated. We're going to get some back, we're going to get some switched. There will be some swapping of territories, to the betterment of both.”
