Update (5:03 p.m. EDT): The Norte Fire has destroyed several homes and threatens hundreds more in the San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente areas of California, as of Friday afternoon.
The wildfire broke out around 11:30 a.m. local time and grew to 250 acres in less than three hours.
An evacuation order is in effect for Zones SJC04, SJC05, SJC10, SCL12 and SCL13.
Evacuation shelters
Residents displaced by the fire can seek shelter at the following locations:
San Juan Capistrano Community Center: 25925 Camino del Avion, San Juan Capistrano.
San Clemente Community Center: 100 Calle Seville, San Clemente.
The Orange County Fire Authority urged residents under evacuation orders to leave immediately.
"If you are under an evacuation order, leave now," the agency said in a post on X.

Multiple structures are reportedly affected near Via La Mirada and Calle Esperanza. Fire crews are also responding to reports of structures threatened near Avenida California and Paseo Aliso.
Evacuations have been requested for all streets off Camino Las Ramblas down to Interstate 5 and around to the San Juan dump, according to radio traffic.
A hard road closure has been requested from I-5 at San Juan Creek Rd to Camino De Los Mares.
The fire is also reportedly impacting homes near Avenida Calita, Via La Mirada and Via De Agua in San Juan Capistrano.

Evacuation orders are in effect for Zones SJC04, SJC05, SJC10, SCL12 and SCL13, according to the Orange County evacuation map.

Initial report: A wildfire dubbed the Norte Fire has broken out near San Juan Capistrano in Orange County, California. The fire is located in the 3000 block of Eminencia Del Norte in San Clemente, according to the fire map.
The blaze was first reported around 11:30 a.m. local time on Friday. By 12:30 p.m., it had burned approximately 50 acres. No evacuation warnings have been issued as of the latest update.
