A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Costa Rica on Monday in an area 74 kilometers (46 miles) southwest of the capital, the US Geological Survey said.

The USGS said the quake was registered at 9:26 pm local time (0326 GMT Tuesday) at a depth of 29 kilometers (17.4 miles).

There were no immediate reports of damage.
