Prominent Nepalese gay rights activist and lawmaker Sunil Babu Panta was on Wednesday honoured with Monette Horwitz Award for his outstanding contribution in spreading awareness about homosexuals.

The Award carries USD 2,500 in cash and a trophy. Panta is the chair of Blue Diamond Society dedicated to the welfare of the lesbian, gay, bio-sexual, trans-sexual and intra-sex people.

Representative of the San Francisco based Monette Horwitz Trust, Winston Wild on Wednesday handed over the award to Panta at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu.
He was rewarded for his involvement in various activities aimed at eradicating homophobia or hatred against homosexuals in society, Panta told PTI over phone.
