An all-day café and bar is set to replace Cheval at Kala Ghoda with relaxed atmosphere and comfort offerings; think: pool table, free WiFi and a DJ booth. Named after its address, 145 (owned by the team behind Khyber and Cheval) fuses Indian dishes with western sensibilities. Set to open on December 21, this “noon to moon” café is perfect for office goers in the neighbourhood.

Unlike Cheval, the renovated space feels airy and less intimidating. The Busride studio has used elements like aluminium kettles, smiley balls, buckets and umbrellas (basically anything one might find on the streets on Mumbai) to create large installations that hang from the ceiling. We loved the outdoor space with floor-to-ceiling windows, perfect to laze around during wintry afternoons. However, it is the smoking room that might be its most interesting element. Once the licences are in, guests can enjoy cocktails in the form of hookah i.e. smoke a Caipiroska – a popular concept in Dubai.

Paavbhaji Cones at 145, Kala Ghoda

The menu is playful and includes dishes like pav bhaji scones, naan tacos and chicken tikka baos. We especially liked the extra spicy bhaji stuffed in super light scones, making the dish a perfect bar accompaniment. In cocktails, go for the Watermelon Thirst, a concoction of fresh watermelon juice, ginger, basil and vodka. For those who like complex flavours, Adam’s Godfather (whisky mixed with amaretto, apple juice and sour mix) is the perfect go-to drink.

Address: 145, MG Road, Kala Ghoda

Meal for two: Rs 2,000 (with alcohol)
