Tanzania born Indian, Kunj Trivedi, on Monday, put together his first exhibition in the city, after 17 years of dedicated wildlife photography.

Ask him what took so long and he replies, “Well, I never wanted to a professional wildlife photographer. It’s just a passion, a hobby.” Presently on at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Trivedi’s exhibition was inaugurated by Divya Bhanusingh Chavda, World WildLife Fund President of India.

He began photography during his school days, way back in 1964. “Only once, one of my photos that had a brown bear in Alaska, got published,” he recalls. But wildlife wasn’t the only area Trivedi explored. “I used to do a lot of landscape and heritage photography too,” says the 79-year-old photographer. His love for the flora and the fauna took him places too. “It wouldn’t matter if it was a vacation. I’d go to different parts of the world with a friend just to click pictures. So, there was company and objective,” he smiles.

His first visit to a game reserve was to the famous Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. “I have always been fascinated by predators — leopards, cheetah and lions,” he says. He has them all captured in action. Trivedi has also recorded animal behaviour amongst elephants, African wild dogs, polar bears and brown bears. His landscape photography includes shots of the Canadian Rockies, the dunes in Namibia and Angkor Vat, Cambodia.
