Former bureaucrat MN Buch passes away in Bhopal

M N Buch, former bureaucrat and commonly referred to as 'architect of new Bhopal' for the urban planning concepts that he introduced in the city, died following a brain stroke on Saturday evening.

Buch had been admitted to local Bansal Hospital after developing heart complications on June 4 and underwent angioplasty.

However, he got a paralytic attack early this evening and succumbed to it at 7.30pm, senior cardiologist with the hospital Dr Skand Trivedi confirmed to HT.

He is survived by wife Nirmala, ex-chief secretary of MP and son Vineet, who stays in USA.

A Padma Bhushan awardee, Buch sought voluntary retirement from Indian Administrative Services in 1984 and took up social activities.

An expert in housing, forestation, town planning and environmental protection, he set up the NGO National Centre for Human Settlements and Environment (NCHSE).

Born on 5th October 1934, he was known for his clear views on betterment of Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh, especially in context of urban planning and environment protection.

He received UNEP award for the implementation of desertification control program in 1994-95 and Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1998.

The funeral procession would start from his E-4, Arera Colony residence at 11.30am and last rites would be performed at Bhadbhada crematorium.
