Lack of experience proved disastrous for the Madhya Pradesh State Hockey Academy (MPSHA) as they were defeated in their first match against Comptroller Auditor General (CAG) by 5-2 in Obaidullah Khan Heritage Hockey Cup on Thursday.
The tournament is being played at Aishbagh stadium.
In the first half, MPSHA players were unable to cope up with their opponents. The CAG scored two field goals and two by scoring off of the penalty corners.
MPSHA captain Mohammad Nizamuddin said, “I am a little disappointed with the game. We tried to give our best but hockey is a team game where performance of every player matters. In MPSHA, most of the players are juniors and sub-juniors and we are playing against CAG which has experienced national and international players.”
MP players could not stand well against CAG players. “Most of the excellent players of the academy are representing other teams. Even I got an offer from the IOC but I wanted to represent the academy’s team because it gave me a lot,” he added.
From MPSHA, Vikas Chaudhary striked off two penalty corners in the second half.
MPSHA technical advisor Ashok Dhyanchand said, “There is a dearth of experienced players in MPSHA and this is the reason behind the defeat. In the first half, players played a slow game because some of them were facing the senior players for the first time.”
MPSHA will play the next match against Air India on August 17.
In Pool A, CAG scored 5 (SS Bendela, 2, Mohammad Naeemuddin, 2 and V Shamughma, 1,) and defeated MPSHA (Vikas Chaudhary, 2)
Mohammad Naeemuddin was named the man of the match
In Pool-D, Indian Railways defeated Madhya Pradesh by 6-0.
