Bollywood is not only about good acting: Prachi Desai

Prachi Desai, who stayed away from the big screen last year, adds that succeeding in Bollywood is not only about good acting.

She was last seen on the big screen in a dance number, ‘Awari’, in Ek Villain (2014). Barring that, Prachi Desai has been largely away from the silver screen for a while now. “I was chilling (laughs). On a serious note, I was supposed to do a film, called Badtameez Dil, but that didn’t take off. There are also some interesting independent films that are still in the process of being made,” she says.

“No one cares about what you are doing on screen. But I am still the same, and acting is still about passion for me,” says Prachi Desai.

Although Prachi kept a low profile all of last year, she says she was busy shooting for her two new films, Azhar and the sequel to Rock On (2008), during that period. “Throughout 2015, I was shooting for these films. But time is the most essential thing for an actor. You have to be seen, and be out there,” she says, adding that she was also “sick of playing same old characters” despite being “one of the younger ones around”.

Prachi blames her own “image barrier” for her absence. “But I did not contribute to it at all. When I did Rock On, I was just 19, and did not know what exactly was going around. But now, I am very choosy about the films I do. I am done playing those usual older parts,” she says.

Calling herself still a “little oblivious” of things around her, Prachi says she always thought that “acting is what takes” an actor further in life. “But it’s everything else [other than acting] that takes you ahead in Bollywood (laughs),” admits the actor. “No one cares about what you are doing on screen. But I am still the same, and acting is still about passion for me,” she adds. She also feels great to be part of her upcoming films. “I have not done a film like this. So, Azhar was a novelty for me. As for the sequel to Rock On, I have a connection with it at an emotional level, as it was my debut film,” she says.
