Fame and social activism not related, says Dia Mirza

Actor Dia Mirza says she would have still supported social causes even if she weren’t a celebrity.

Be it the issue of water conservation or animal welfare, actor Dia Mirza is known to lend support to various causes. She takes her responsibility towards society seriously, and says she would have still done her bit even if she weren’t a celebrity.

“I have never viewed my participation in social work as a by-product of being a film personality. If I weren’t in films, I would have still done all of this. What does happen is that when you are in films, there is a certain amount of interest that you generate, and it does have a positive influence on a larger section of society. In that sense it is a blessing,” says Mirza.

In fact, the 34-year-old finds a sense of purpose fighting for such issues. “My need to do what I do is very personal. For me, my purpose in life is defined by the choices I make. Through the causes I choose, I play a role in nation building. Likewise, we all make a big difference through our choices. I think the fact that I have been blessed with a position where I have some kind of influence only adds to that purpose and that role,” says the actor.
