Akshay Kumar’s latest movie may just prove to be his most successful ever. In its opening weekend, Gold has raked in ₹71.30 crore and has broken the record for Akshay’s biggest weekend opener by a big stretch.
Gold made ₹25 crore on its first day and after a dip on the second day, picked up pace again. Akshay’s most successful weekend opener so far was Singh Is Bliing with ₹54.44 crore collection. Here’s list of his most successful weekend openers:

Top grossers or not, Akshay Kumar has still hit jackpot with Gold. On the very first day of its release, the film broke quite a few records. First, with Gold, Akshay has delivered his eighth hit in a row. His success spree before Gold includes Pad Man ( ₹78.22 crore), Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Jolly LLB 2 ( ₹117 crore), Rustom ( ₹127.49 crore) that also won him a National Award, Housefull 3 ( ₹109.14 crore), Airlift ( ₹128.1 crore) and Singh Is Bliing ( ₹89.95 crore).
The film released in 3,050 screens In India and clashed with John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate. John’s movie released in 2,500 screens and has made ₹56 crore as well. Gold and Satyameva Jayate together have beaten the highest opening day record in the Hindi film circuit, so far held by the ₹40 crore net collections of one film, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Together, Akshay and John’s films earned about ₹45 crore.
With significant first day occupancy of 52.5%, Gold has emerged as the third highest opener of 2018 so far after Baaghi 2 and Sanju. Gold director Reema Kagti gets a personal record too. She made Talaash and Honeymoon Travels previously.
