Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Thursday, “The big Independence Day holiday results in big numbers at the box office. Both Gold and Satyameva Jayate have a terrific day one and both, Akshay and John record their highest day one business. Yes, the box office is on fire.” With over Rs 20 crore at box office, the vigilante drama is way ahead of John Abraham’s best solo performer so far, which was action drama Force 2 that had made Rs 5.75 crore.
Gold ranks for highest occupancy on day 1
With significant first day occupancy of 52.5%, Gold has emerged as the third highest opener of 2018 so far after Baaghi 2 and Sanju. Satyameva Jayate, meanwhile, ranks sixth in the list with 42.5%. According to Box Office India, while most circuits reported equally healthy numbers for both films, Gold took the lead in circuits like Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, East Punjab and Mumbai thanks to Kumar’s massy fan following.

Directors win too
Satyameva Jayate is director Milap Milan Zhaveri’s biggest opener till date too. He has earlier directed Sunny Leone’s Mastizaade and Jaane Kahaan Se Aayi Hai. Gold director Reema Kagti gets a personal record too. She made Talaash and Honeymoon Travels previously.
Akshay Kumar’s Gold and John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate are based on the same theme - patriotism - but belong to completely different set up. While Akshay’s film was about India’s first gold medal in hockey at 1948 Olympics, John Abraham’s film is about a vigilante who kills corrupt cops.
