The two films, released on Independence Day and heading towards a festive weekend that includes Parsi New Year, have already broken eight box office records between both of them. While Gold and Satyameva Jayate are likely to see a drop on day two at box office as it was a working day, the numbers are just going to surge in the coming weekend.

While Akshay’s Gold got 3,050 screens In India, John’s action drama is showing on 2,500 screens. Despite a superlative track record of Ashay, Gold holds a special place in his filmography. John, fresh off the success of Parmanu, has also found himself a prospective Rs 100-crore churner in Satyameva Jayate, according to a confident trade. So, without further ado, 10 box office records broken by Gold and Satyameva Jayate...

Gold is Akshay Kumar’s eighth box office success

With Gold, Akshay has delivered his eighth hit in a row. His success spree before Gold includes Pad Man (Rs 78.22 crore), Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Jolly LLB 2 (Rs 117 crore), Rustom (Rs 127.49 crore) that also won him a National Award, Housefull 3 (Rs 109.14 crore), Airlift (Rs 128.1 crore) and Singh Is Bliing (Rs 89.95 crore).

Gold is Akshay Kumar’s highest opener ever

Independence Day 2018 was highest opening day ever

Gold and Satyameva Jayate together have beaten the highest opening day record in the Hindi film circuit, so far held by the Rs 40 crore net collections of one film, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Together, Akshay and John’s films earned about Rs 45 crore.

Satyameva Jayate is John Abraham’s biggest opener ever

Satyameva Jayate box office collection has been career best for John Abraham.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Thursday, “The big Independence Day holiday results in big numbers at the box office. Both Gold and Satyameva Jayate have a terrific day one and both, Akshay and John record their highest day one business. Yes, the box office is on fire.” With over Rs 20 crore at box office, the vigilante drama is way ahead of John Abraham’s best solo performer so far, which was action drama Force 2 that had made Rs 5.75 crore.

Gold ranks for highest occupancy on day 1

With significant first day occupancy of 52.5%, Gold has emerged as the third highest opener of 2018 so far after Baaghi 2 and Sanju. Satyameva Jayate, meanwhile, ranks sixth in the list with 42.5%. According to Box Office India, while most circuits reported equally healthy numbers for both films, Gold took the lead in circuits like Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, East Punjab and Mumbai thanks to Kumar’s massy fan following.

Directors win too

Satyameva Jayate is director Milap Milan Zhaveri’s biggest opener till date too. He has earlier directed Sunny Leone’s Mastizaade and Jaane Kahaan Se Aayi Hai. Gold director Reema Kagti gets a personal record too. She made Talaash and Honeymoon Travels previously.

Akshay Kumar’s Gold and John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate are based on the same theme - patriotism - but belong to completely different set up. While Akshay’s film was about India’s first gold medal in hockey at 1948 Olympics, John Abraham’s film is about a vigilante who kills corrupt cops.
