Actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh brightened up a foggy Friday morning as they stepped into a room full of hooting, enthusiastic winners of HT City’s Stars in the City contest. And as soon as they settled in, a makeup guy scurried across the stage to touch up, well, Ranveer’s makeup!

“He has a whole routine when he starts off with an interaction — touch-ups, coffee...,” said Deepika pulling her co-star’s leg. Not the one to be outdone, Ranveer immediately replied: “Of course, I even take a (beauty) nap in between sometimes!” The play of wit and infectious laughter continued through the session. However, the high point was perhaps when Ranveer was asked if Dippy has ever called him Ranbir, (her ex-flame) by mistake. “No, she hasn’t. I would be mortified if she did that, ever!”

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is similar in scale and grandeur to Ram-Leela. How old were you when it released (in 1999)?
Deepika: I was only 13! Ranveer: I don’t know... you guys tell me! I was always ‘ganit mein fail’. Well, I was actually 14 years old and loved the song, Nimboora. But, it’s not my favourite Bhansali film. I like his darker stuff like Khamoshi and Black.

We recently reported that audiences take trailers as seriously as the film itself. Do you think the success of a trailer is vital for the film’s success?
Deepika: The audiences are smart and perceptive and the pressure to deliver a good trailer is very high. Even in that 1 minute-30 second long video, they have the power to decide if they like or dislike the film.

You recovered from a bad case of Dengue fever recently. But tell us, what brought on this Loveria you have been talking about?
Ranveer: (Fumbles jokingly) Woh actually...you know...Can I have some water... (Laughs).

I had dengue fever and the doctor gave me a list of medicines but I had no idea about their side effects. That talk of Loveria was because of the medicines that made me loopy. Sorry Deepika!

Question by contest winner Aashita: I read that you did a recce of Delhi University and the city for your film, Band Baaja Baraat.
Ranveer: That was a really fun trip. I posed as a student in a chemistry class in DU and even got caught by the teacher. It ended badly with me trying to escape by running across Hansraj college wearing a Kirorimal hoodie!
