It’s wrong to compare me with with my family: Soha Ali Khan

Actor Soha Ali Khan says she is emotionally involved with her family, but they do not interfere in each other’s professional choices.

Actor Soha Ali Khan, who has been part of several films in supporting and lead roles, feels she can never come out of her family’s shadow. Despite films such as Rang De Basanti (2006), Khoya Khoya Chand (2007), Tum Mile (2009), the actor is still compared to her mother, yesteryear actor Sharmila Tagore and brother, actor Saif Ali Khan.

Clearly unperturbed with these comparisons, Soha says, “This has been my whole life for so many years now. This is who I am and my identity that I have been raised with, and I do get lot of advantages from being in the family I am and I tend to look at it as a strength. There’s a lot of protection, respect, love and of course comparisons.”

However, the actor maintains that she never chose to be compared with anyone in the first place. “I understand I can’t fight it. But it’s wrong to compare me with my family. People should understand that we are all very independent. As a family, we are involved emotionally, but do not interfere in each other’s professional choices. So I hope people appreciate that each one of us has individual strength within the family itself,” she says.

Actor Soha Ali Khan feels she’s content and has a healthy work-life balance.

Unlike other stars, the 38-year-old actor says she no longer worries about whether she’s got her due in the industry or not. “I’ve really stopped thinking about making a mark or whether this will be my moment. For me, a film is not just about that,” says Soha, adding, “I enjoy acting and the process of being in a film. Once the film is released, audience’s reaction is something that happens, but hopefully by that time you’re doing something else (better) in your life and that should not really affect you much.”
