Kahaani 2: Will Vidya Balan recreate the Kahaani magic?

She went ahead and did films like Guru and Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) where she garnered both critical and fans’ appreciation.

With Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani (2012), Vidya re-affirmed her image as the heroine filmmakers could bank upon. The film began an era in Bollywood that soon saw female characters as lead, with little or no support from male actors. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap even called her the “female Aamir Khan” and the “female Amitabh Bachchan” of Bollywood.

However, Vidya has seen a downfall in her career since. She was seen in films like Ghanchakkar (2013), Bobby Jasoos (2014), Humari Adhuri Kahaani (2015) and TE3N (2016) but none of the movies did well at the box office. While TE3N received critical appreciation, Ghanchakkar, Bobby Jasoos and Humari Adhuri Khaani were panned by critics.

With Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh all set to hit theatres on Friday, Vidya Balan awaits a new lease of life infused in her downhill career. Kahaani 2 has been written and directed by Sujoy Ghosh. He also wrote and directed the 2012 film. The filmmakers have claimed Kahaani 2 is not a sequel but insist that it “carries the essence of Kahaani”.
