Many youngsters try to look like their favourite Bollywood actors. At times, however, they tend to take extreme measures and end up ruining their health. Model-turned-actor Diana Penty, who isn’t oblivious to this fact, says, “Going on extreme diets to get a certain look is not worth it because modelling isn’t that great a profession at the end of the day.”

The actor, who made her Bollywood debut with Cocktail (2012), will be seen in the upcoming film Happy Bhag Jayegi. She says that even she was conscious of her physical appearance while growing up. “I have been skinny since I was a kid, and I hated it,” she says. “I was tall, lanky and stood out in an awkward way. It took a lot for me to get over that. I was extremely self-conscious.”

Ask her if she thinks actors and models are unintentionally responsible for setting unrealistic fashion standards, and Diana says, “Yes, and no. If I approach this question from a personal point of view, I agree. Modelling just happened to me; I never planned it. I decided to use my physique to my advantage in the profession. Young girls look at us and think we are flawless. But they should know that a lot of photo editing happens on magazine covers. We don’t wake up every morning looking like that. With so many touch ups and makeup, who wouldn’t look good?”

Diana explains why, despite being approached to judge various beauty contents, she never took one up. She says, “Everyone is beautiful in their own way. So, how do you pick one winner from 10 girls? All of them might work in completely different ways. Some might be good on the runway, some for TV, films, etc. So, on what basis do you choose?”
