Raima Sen had a packed last year. She shot for five films that will release this year. While one of them is a love story with a twist alongside actor Prateik Babbar; second one with actor Kunal Roy Kapur is a comedy with a social message. She’ll also be seen playing the wife of a suspected terrorist in a film, which is about the attacks on Sankat Mochan temple in 2006. Finally, a crime thriller where she plays the role of a bar owner. The film also stars actor Kay Kay Menon.

Actor Raima Sen says that trying varied genres in Bollywood has helped her bring out her inner actor.
Actor Raima Sen says that trying varied genres in Bollywood has helped her bring out her inner actor.

Ask her how she bagged these projects one after the other, Raima shares, “I was in Kolkata for three years; concentrating only on Bengali films. It was only after Bollywood Diaries released in February 2016 that people noticed me and I got these offers. I looked at it as my second innings in Bollywood after a sabbatical from Mumbai.”

Actor Raima Sen has as many as four films slated to release in 2017.

Ask her, how easy or difficult was it to play diverse roles, the actor replies, “Getting into a character’s skin one after the other is challenging, but for me it has been easy as all my directors I have worked with were supportive. I’m a director’s actor,” says Raima, who has worked in films such as Chokher Bali (2003), Parineeta (2005) and Teen Patti (2010).

Trying varied genres has been an equally enjoyable journey for the actor, who used to sit with her directors to read the scripts. “Playing these extreme and different roles has helped me bring out my inner actor. I worked with Kay Kay again after Honeymoon Travels (2007). I got to know Kunal Roy Kapur, who I had seen in Delhi Belly (2001) but I had not really worked with him. He’s a fantastic actor with a great sense of humour,” says Raima.
