Sixty percent of the home budget is currently spent online by Indians for shopping, making travel purchases and utility bill payments, according to a survey.

Indians voted ‘online shopping’ as the top reason for them to access the Internet. ‘Social networking’ came in a close second, the survey of six cities revealed. (HT graphics)

The survey, titled ‘Understanding Online Consumers’, was conducted by American Express and Nielsen across six cities- Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.

Indians voted ‘online shopping’ as the top reason for them to access the Internet. ‘Social networking’ came in a close second, the survey of six cities revealed.

“Shopping has always been the favourite pastime for Indians and now it has become the virtual pastime”, Manoj Adlakha, CEO, American Express Banking Corp told HT.
