On Dhanteras eve, Chandni Chopra, 25, a HR consultant at Delhi-based automation firm was shopping for monthly grocery at Moti Nagar’s hypermarket ‘More’. Seeing Maggi back on the shelves, Chopra immediately bought 10 packets of the popular noodles.
Brand loyalists like Chopra are making bulk purchases of Nestle’s priced product, Maggi. While Snapdeal saw seven lakh packets of Maggi sold out within 5 minuters after its debut on the e-commerce website, grocery apps such as PepperTap, Grofers, Pick N Get are also posting healthy sales.
“We have serviced over 45,000 orders for Maggi through 100 stores across the country till Sunday morning,” said Navneet Singh, CEO, PepperTap. Grofers sold about 30,000 packets on the day of Maggi’s re-launch, while Pick N Get sold out 4,000 packets of Maggi within 2 hours.
Retailers also echoed the same story. “While Maggi is still not available with us, the product has become the most searched item on our website with close to 10,000 searches in the past week,” said Kishore Ganji, CEO, zip.in, an online supermarket based out of Hyderabad.
Describing the demand as ‘overwhelming’, a Nestle India spokesperson said: “In the initial four days, about 25 million packs reached the market. We are making our best endeavour to reach the product to consumers.”
