Gold prices remained high in India on Monday, August 24, with 24-carat gold priced at ₹1,62,289 per 10 grams and 22-carat gold at ₹1,48,656.72 per 10 grams. Kolkata and Mumbai recorded slightly higher rates, while Delhi and Bengaluru were at the same levels.
International gold prices also climbed to a more than three-month high on Monday, Reuters reported.
Why are gold prices still high?
Gold has continued to attract investors as uncertainty in global markets remains still. The global scenarios kept the demand for the metal strong. A weaker US dollar has also contributed to the gold prices. This made the dollar-priced metal more attractive to buyers using other currencies, according to Reuters.
Expectations around US interest rates are another factor being watched by investors. Gold tends to benefit when markets expect interest rates to ease, as lower rates can make non-yielding assets such as gold more attractive.
Geopolitical tensions and concerns over the global economic outlook have also kept demand for gold strong as investors look for relatively safer assets. Continued buying by central banks has provided further support to prices.

Market outlook
{{/usCountry}}The near-term outlook for gold remains sensitive to changes in interest-rate expectations, the dollar and investor sentiment. Gold prices have recently gained as the dollar weakened and markets focused on US inflation data and signals from the Federal Reserve, Reuters reported on Monday.
At the same time, continued central-bank purchases are providing structural support to demand. The World Gold Council said central banks continued to buy gold in healthy volumes in the first half of 2026, while overall gold demand reached a higher value.
