She was the founding president of the NGC network. As COO, Ong will report to Paul Aiello, STAR’s current CEO and will assume duties from June, this year.

HT had first reported that Askew, one-time a powerful Hong Kong-based executive of STAR, was also on his way out as part of the change of guard at STAR announced at the beginning of this year. While the HK-based CEO Michelle Guthrie quit in December, Peter Mukerjea and Sameer Nair, both CEOs of STAR India, followed suit soon after.

Askew had initially opted for a two-month medical leave, but was not expected to resume. He had a close working relationship with Sameer Nair and is expected to join NDTV, industry sources said.
