You won’t be able to access I-T dept’s site for 6 days in June. Here’s why

The systems wing of the I-T department said in an order last week the transition from the old portal to the new one will be made operational from June 7.

Taxpayers will not be able access the website of the income tax (I-T) department for six days in June when it is expected to launch a new e-filing web portal used to file routine income tax returns (ITRs) and perform other tax-related work. I-T department officials have said the existing web portal will be shut for six days between June 1 and June 6.

“We are excited to be moving to the new e-Filing portal from 7th June, 2021 onwards. The new portal, designed to be more user friendly, will have several new features and enhancements. Stay Tuned!” the I-T department tweeted on Saturday.

The systems wing of the I-T department said in an order last week the transition from the old portal—www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in—to the new one—www.incometaxgov.in—will be completed and made operational from June 7. "In preparation of this launch and for migration activities, the existing portal of the department at www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in would not be available for a brief period of six days from June 1 to 6," the order said.

Taxpayers use the e-filing portal to file their individual or business category ITRs and also to raise complaints seeking refunds and other works with the tax department.

The I-T department uses it to issue notices, get responses from taxpayers and respond to their queries and communicate final orders like assessments, appeals, exemption and penalties, among others.
