‘Launch not scheduled this year; for India, in 2024’: Mahindra Auto on 5-door Thar

The company was responding to reports that it will debut the model on August 15 in South Africa.

Mahindra Automotive has dismissed reports that the debut of the 5-door version of its Thar SUV will take place in South Africa on August 15, saying that the launch is not scheduled for the year.

“With reference to multiple media reports indicating that the much awaited Mahindra Thar 5-Door will debut at an Mahindra event on August15, we would like to clarify that the launch is not scheduled for this year,” the company wrote in a statement on Twitter.

The existing model, with 3 doors, is priced between 10.54 lakh and 16.77 lakh (ex-showroom). The upcoming 5-door version is expected to be priced much higher.

Thar 5-door: Cabin

It is likely to have the same design and interior as the current model. Mahindra, however, may add more technology and features to the 5-door version.

Thar 5-door: Powertrain

The SUV may be given the same powertrain as its 3-door counterpart. The latter is available in 3 different engine options: 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel, 2.2-litre mHawk 130 CRDe diesel, and 2.0-litre mStallion 150 TGDi petrol.
