A sudden change in weather led to steep fall in minimum temperatures across Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday, even as duststorm hit a few places in the region.
The minimum temperatures in the region fell between 6-11 degrees Celsius, the Met department said here.
Chandigarh, which on Tuesday recorded a minimum of 23.2 degrees, registered a low of 12.2 degrees on Wednesday.
Amritsar experienced 9.4 degrees C while Ludhiana recorded a low of 11.6 degrees. Patiala recorded a minimum of 10.5 degrees.
Ambala in Haryana recorded a low of 12.5 degrees C on Wednesday while Hisar also experienced a cold night at 10.5 degrees.
Karnal was the coolest place in the state registering a low of 9.4 degrees which was five notches below normal.
Rohtak and Bhiwani also recorded below normal at 11.1 degrees and 10 degrees, respectively.
The local Met department has asked the farmers to delay irrigating crops over the next two days owing to windy conditions.
The change in weather in the region happened due to Western Disturbance and abnormal rise in day and night temperatures during the past few days, Chandigarh Met department director Surender Paul said.
"A steep pressure gradient was created due to sudden rise in temperatures.... We have suggested the farmers to delay irrigating crops as cool and windy conditions are likely to prevail until Friday which can lead to water-logging problem," Paul said.
