Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Department has implemented a scheme to set up the centres at all district headquarters in the state in a phased manner to facilitate senior citizens.

Senior citizens visiting the centre can take part in recreational activities, play games and read newspapers and magazines.

Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Kartar Devi said in Chandigarh on Tuesday that the buildings for the centres were under construction at Punchkula, Sonepat, Hisar, Bhiwani, Jhajjar and Rohtak.

The Department as recurring expenditure would provide a sum of Rs 4.80 lakh to each such centre, she said.

She said that an old age home has been constructed at Ambala and such homes were under construction at Yamunanagar, Rohtak and Hisar.

Each home costing Rs 30 lakh was being constructed with the financial assistance of Central Government. The state government was running a home for the aged and infirm at Rewari where inmates were being provided Rs 600 per month as ration money and Rs 50 per month as pocket money.

She said a co-ordination committee has been constituted under National Policy for Older Persons under her leadership.
