This new donut shop which just launched in the city brings something to my mind — the king of gluttony, Homer Simpson! Oh, Homer would be very happy if he resided in the tricity now. Do you remember that episode of The Simpsons when the big yellow fellow sold his soul to the devil for a donut? As he famously says — Mmmmm donuts… And, we couldn’t agree more!
The sweet treat is not commonly eaten in the region as north Indians still largely prefer desi ghee ladoos and kaju barfi or pinni to an all-American fast food product. But, wanting to offer tricity residents something a bit different, 23-year-old Ketan Kalra, has just opened the tricity’s first exclusive donut outlet — Superdonuts in Sector 8, Chandigarh.
The donuts, which are glazed (R45) or centre-filled (R55), are freshly baked every eight hours and use only high-grade flour. “I decided to start this business after my experiences of eating out abroad. I wanted to offer locals something unique which caters to the changing tastes of the youth, and also appeals to local palates,” shares Ketan.
The takeaway outlet’s donuts have a variety of toppings and fillings. “Our brand’s USP is the donut flavours that combine popular products such as peanut butter, peppermint, Oreo cookies and marshmallows. We also have special fruit fillings for our donuts like lemon, strawberry, blueberry and apple,” says the young entrepreneur who plans to open subsequent outlets in the tricity.
