Speculation had been rife that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) might not mark its presence at the SAD show due to strained ties between the ruling alliance partners. Last month, Sharma had demanded the removal of Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia after the latter was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in the drug racket case.

The BJP’s Muktsar district unit spokesman, Ashwani Girdhar, said Sharma would separately address the party cadres and also inaugurate the BJP’s membership drive camp at the mela.
