The tongue-in-cheek press statement -- referring to the Congress high-command's withdrawal of five appointments made by the new PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa - was issued by SAD secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, who said that Bajwa also was "forced to choose three former independents as general secretaries in the PPCC".

Bajwa had appointed his brother Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa as the PPCC general secretary and Sukhpal Singh Khaira as the PPCC chief spokesman among the five appointments that were later withdrawn.

Of the new general secretaries appointed later, three - OP Soni, Gurpeet Singh Kangar and Charanjit Singh Channi -- had in the past rebelled against the Congress, the SAD secretary general pointed out. "This just shows what a complete disarray the Congress party is in, and how desperately short of loyal workers."
