The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in association with DAV College-10 organised a musical evening featuring prodigious tabla maestro Avirbhav Verma disciple and son of legendary guru Pavan Kumar Verma of Punjab ghrana in a solo and Jugalbandi concert under the horizon series at the college auditorium here on Saturday.
Avirbhav had been performing in major countries since 2000.
Just back from Lahore International classical music festival, Avirbhav delineated the major elements of tabla playing in the opening “Peshkar”before presenting the detailed recital of kayda and parans.
His composition “Lal Qila ”won applause. In order to give an innovative dimension to the performance, Avirbhav collaborated with more accomplished musicians like Sandip Singh on Dilruba, Keshav Singh Seen on sitar and Herbert Vincent on keyboard instead of using a conventional Harmonium or Sarangi for Lehra.
Next came the fast paced (drut lya) compositions. After more tukde and pranas, the quartet produced an
electrifying rela before concluding with a faster thrilling Jhalla amidst applause.
Avirbhav tempted the music loving intrusive audience to clap along in perfect laya and tal as he weaved sprouts of tal permutations and combinations.
